St. Dominic Academy, Jersey City, NJ
This all-girl secondary school -- currently in its 128th year -- offers a complete college preparatory curriculum for grades 9 through 12. Virtually 100 per cent of its graduates go on to college.
In celebration of its 125 anniversary, ML Website Designs completely redesigned the website and has been responsible for on-going updates and enhancements.
First and foremost, the redesigned site makes use of the school logo and its colors, providing a clear and consistent look. It has numerous images of the school, so prospective students and their parents are made aware of the facilities available and alumnae and donors see the types of changes made possible by their contributions. Most importantly, however, the website addresses the need for clear, comprehensive navigation while using a minimal amount of a web page's "real estate."
One of the more recent enhancements is the ability to make secure online donations and purchases of school event tickets.
Haitian Solidarity Network of the Northeast (HSNNE). Elizabeth, NJ
HSNNE is a faith-based organziation founded in 1994 in to provide support and solidarity for its brothers in Haiti. The group funds self-help programs in the island nation, in many cases partnering Roman Catholic parishes in New Jersey with parishes and programs in Haiti. The HSNNE's other major objective is to communicate what is currently happening in Haiti and to support its independence as a nation.
HSNNE recognized the Internet provides another means of commnicating its goals and developing support for its work. However, as a non-profit (5013c)organization dependent on volunteers and minimal membership dues, it needed a website solution that would involve minimal cost. In 2005, the network coordinator of HSNNE approached ML Websites in terms of evaluating its needs and preparing a website design proposal.
Working from an outline prepared by the HSNNE board, including its desire for for a color scheme that would reflect the colors of the Caribbean and include the haitian flag, the hsnne.org website was launched at year-end 2005. Existing organization documents were edited and converted into a web-friendly language. Photos and images were interspersed with text to highlight the organization's accomplishments. The quarterly newsletter was also made available on-line.
Recent enhancements include the ability to print sign-up forms, such as the 2006 fund-raising journal ad.
Metropolitan Retirees Association (MRA)
The Metropolitan Retirees Association (MRA) is an organization for employees who have retired from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. It provides an opportunity for folks to get together periodically and catch up with old friends.
The website was developed in 2003 to communicate upcoming meetings and report on items of interest to the retiree population. An important part of the design was having a website that would load quickly. At the request of members who wished to print newsletters, a link to a printable PDF version of the most recent newsletter ia also provided.
