Sixth Annual Summer Seminars and New Summer Institute Offered for 7th and 8th Grade Girls
Attention: Girls entering 7th and 8th grade this September, here's an opportunity to learn something new this summer! SDA is offering its 6th annual Summer Seminars, and its new Summer Institute. Descriptions of course content follow the schedule below:

Classes run from Monday - Thursday, mornings only (no classes Wednesday, July 4). Class size will be limited.

Summer Seminars
Six Week Seminars
Pre-Algebra: June 25 - Aug 2
Prepares students for readiness in high school algebra. The student will work toward mastery of basic math and a new understanding of algebraic terms and equations. Session A: 8:15 -10:15 a.m. (Seminar fee: $225)
Fun with Physics: June 25 - Aug 2
Find a new and exciting application of physics to everyday life. This is a fun, hands-on experience. Session B: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Seminar fee: $225)

Four Week Seminars
Drama: July 2 - July 26
Students will learn about the elements of dramatic production from its inception through its performance. The class will actively allow students to assume the roles of actor, director, and stage crew. This class will end in a production to which parents will be invited. Session A: 8:15 -10:15 a.m. (Seminar fee: $175)
Exploring Languages: July 2 - July 26
Students will learn basic French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish, and will receive cultural and historical information which will help them develop an appreciation of other societies and customs. In addition, the classical language, Latin, will be introduced. Ultimately, this course will help the student decide which language to take in later grades. Session B: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Seminar fee: $175)
Power Point and Digital Photography: July 2 - July 26
This course is designed for students to become familiar and comfortable with MS Power Point. Students will learn how to manipulate fonts and designs, and insert pictures and animation from the Internet. Creativity and imagination will be encouraged and celebrated. This course will include a Power Point presentation of the student's own topic and design. Also included will be a hands-on experience with digital photography. Session B: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Seminar fee: $175)
Two Week Seminars
Study Skills: July 2 - 12 Focusing on critical thinking skills, reading assignments and basic research, students will learn time management skills, memory tips, word analysis, and note-taking skills. Session B: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Seminar fee: $100)
Creative Writing: July 16 - 26 Do you enjoy writing and creating through process? Creative writing is designed for students who enjoy writing and wish to further develop their skills of description and grammar through thoughtful observation and hands-on practice. Each student will begin to see writing as a process. Session B: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (Seminar fee: $100)
The Summer Institute: Leadership, Culture and Design
This three-week program (July 30 - August 16) will offer girls entering 8th and 7th grade in September an opportunity to expand their horizons in the fields of Women's Leadership, Culture, and the Arts. SDA's own instructors will lead the young women in four courses: Women's Leadership, Cultures of the World, Visual Arts, and Computer Graphics. Come and be a part of this new program!
Women's Leadership: An exciting course exploring the power of women's leadership in various areas. The student will be taught leadership qualities and challenged to live out those qualities in her everyday life.
Cultures of the World: This course will examine various cultures from around the globe by a highly traveled instructor. The student will not only learn about cultures, but will experience the richness in diversity each culture offers.
Visual Arts: Let your creativity do the talking! This course will explore many art media and their applications. The student will learn how to use multiple techniques and create some of her own original work.
Computer Graphics: Do you like creating graphics on your computer? This course will introduce the student to computer graphics programs and their uses. The student will create a variety of images and learn how to apply them to school projects, etc.
Sessions run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Institute fee is $450.
